Render Cleaning Service

Bring your properties render back to life with our professional cleaning service. We use the correct cleaning techniques and treatments to safely remove organic growth and restore much of the properties original appearance.

External render, particularly monocouche, silicone and traditional lime or cement render, becomes dirty over time due to a combination of moisture, airborne pollution, organic growth and weather conditions.

In the UK, one of the biggest causes of dirty render is algae and other biological growth, which can create black, green or grey staining on the outside of properties.

The six main causes of dirty render

1. Algae, mould and biological growth

Moisture allows algae, fungi and other microorganisms to grow on rendered surfaces. These can create black, green and dark grey patches, particularly on north-facing walls that receive less sunlight.

2. Rainwater and moisture

Rainwater running down render can carry dirt and pollutants, leaving unsightly streaks. Leaking gutters, overflowing downpipes and poorly designed window sills can make staining worse.

3. Traffic pollution and airborne dirt

Vehicle exhaust, soot, dust and other airborne particles settle on rendered walls. Over time, these can produce grey or black discolouration, particularly on properties close to busy roads.

4. Trees, plants and surrounding vegetation

Nearby trees and hedges create shaded, humid conditions. Leaves, pollen and organic debris can accumulate on the render, encouraging biological growth.

5. Texture and porosity of the render

Rough-textured render can trap dirt more easily than smooth finishes. Some render systems also absorb and retain moisture, creating conditions where algae and fungi can establish themselves.

6. Ageing and lack of maintenance

As render ages, accumulated dirt and biological growth can become increasingly visible. Weathering and deterioration of protective finishes may also make staining more persistent.

Not all black staining is black mould. It may be algae, fungal growth, pollution or a combination of these.

In many cases render can be restored without the need to paint. Our professional cleaning service involves applying suitable biocidal treatments combined with a specialised cleaning method to tackle staining, while protecting the underlying surface. We then apply a clear water sealant to help with future protection (This is dependant on the render system on the property).
